Tribunal upholds Gov Ododo’s victory

The Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in its ruling on Monday, affirmed Usman Ododo as the duly elected Governor of Kogi State, dismissing the petition filed by Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Led by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, the three-member tribunal upheld the election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, stating that the SDP and its governorship candidate failed to substantiate their allegations against the respondents.

Birnin-Kudu emphasized that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act, reinforcing the legitimacy of Governor Ododo’s victory.

Usman Ododo, representing the APC, emerged victorious in the Kogi governorship election held on November 11, 2023, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He secured 446,237 votes, surpassing Muritala Ajaka of the SDP, who garnered 259,052 votes, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with 46,362 votes.
