Tompolo’s Gbaramatu Kingdom came alive for Amaseikumor festival in Delta State

The ancient Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West local government area of Delta state was a beehive of activities on Wednesday as scores of eminent Nigerians stormed the community for the annual Amaseikumor festival.

The political class including Senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers of petroleum resources, Heineken Lokpobri and his Aviation counterpart Festus Keyamo among others graced the ceremony.

Some traditional rulers across the country including the co chairman, Nigeria council of Chiefs; the Ooni of Ife His Royal Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi Ojaja 11 brought royalty and colour to the ceremony.

The rich culture of the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom was on Wednesday showcased when the monarch Pere His Imperial Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II, (Aketekpe-Agadagba) and High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, a.k.a Tompolo hosted a galaxy of Nigerians and some diplomats to the Amaseikumor Festival in Oporoza.

The event turned out to be a political mecca of sort especially for Delta State politicians who stormed Oporoza for the ceremony.

They included but not limited to the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Sen. Joel Onowakpo-Thomas, the Delta State Governor, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who was represented by Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata (Executive Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR), the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, RT. Dennis Emomotimi Guwor.

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze, and that of Bayelsa State, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, NUJ National President, Chief Chris Isiguzo and business mogul chief Tunde Smooth also stormed Oporoza for the Festival.

Others at the ceremony were; Sen. Shehu Buba – Chairman, Senate Committee on National Intelligence; Sen. Eteng Williams – Chairman, Committee on Petroleum Upstream; Sen. Jimkuta David – Chairman, Committee on F.C.T. Area Council; Sen. Musa Mustapha – Chairman, Committee on National Population; Sen. Sunday Marshall – Vice Chairman, Committee on Ecological and Climate Change; Sen. Nasir Sani Zangu Daura – Chairman, Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa NEPAD; Sen. Dikeh Plang – Chairman Committee on Labour and Productivity, Sen. Ani Anthony – Member, Committee on Labour and Productivity.

Members of the House of the present included Fred Agbedi , Thomas Ereyitomi, Julius Pondi, Benedict Etanabene, Rodney Ebikebina, Bassey Akiba, Ajilo Uvnar Shehu, Terseer Ugbor, Umar Yusuf Yabo, Cyril Godwin and Zakazi Dauda Nyampa.

Wednesday was the grand finale of the week long festival which began April 12th, 2024.

Delta State members of House of Representatives from the host community Julius Pondi and Thomas Eriyotomi explained that the annual festival draws sons and daughters of Gbaramatu kingdom to their ancestral home for reunion, to take stock of the previous year and chart a new course.

For the Gbaramatu kingdom, the festival is another avenue to attract development and revive the culture and traditions of the people.

House of Representatives member Fred Agbedi promised that the National Assembly will set in motion to revive culture and traditions of Nigeria across board through festivals.

He said it has become imperative to revive our dying heritage so that generations yet unborn will emulate.
