Tinubu announces free Abuja light rail rides until year end

President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, known as the Metro Line, will offer complimentary rides until the end of the year.

During the presidential flag-off of the Abuja light rail, marking his first year in office, Tinubu commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his efforts in delivering the project, dubbing him “Mr. Project”.

Addressing the audience, Tinubu urged Wike to extend the free ride period until the end of the year, stating, “Let me give the people hope and reason to celebrate.”

Highlighting the significance of the rail project, Tinubu emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering on promises and cited achievements in various sectors, including social services and public utilities.

Previously, Wike had announced a two-month free ride offer for Nigerians utilizing the rail facility.

The Abuja light rail, developed in six phases with funding from the China EXIM Bank, faced setbacks due to vandalism shortly after its commissioning by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

However, its revival under Tinubu’s administration marks a significant milestone in the nation’s transportation infrastructure.
