Terrorists launch attack on Yobe Military Base, kill soldier

In the early hours of Saturday, March 23, suspected terrorists launched a daring attack on a military base located in Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State. The brazen assault resulted in the tragic death of a soldier and the destruction of a military patrol vehicle.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed that the attackers descended on the military base under the cover of darkness, unleashing a barrage of gunfire and chaos.

“A soldier was killed, and troops and CJTF engaged the suspected terrorists,” Abdulkarim stated.

Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of terror as the assailants stormed the town shortly after midnight, firing indiscriminately and instilling fear among residents.

Modu Bahna, a resident of Gujba, described the harrowing experience, noting that many people fled into the surrounding bushes to escape the violence.

Fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported, and the attackers did not engage in looting or plundering of stores. Instead, their primary target appeared to be the military base, where they launched a deadly assault, resulting in the loss of a soldier’s life and the destruction of military property.

This tragic incident adds to a recent spate of violence in the region, further underscoring the persistent threat posed by terrorism and insurgency in Yobe State.

The attack comes on the heels of a communal clash in Delta State, where over 15 soldiers, including two Majors and a Captain, lost their lives while responding to a distress call between Okuama and Okoloba communities.

As authorities continue to investigate the attack and bolster security measures in the area, residents remain on edge, grappling with the harsh realities of insecurity and the toll it takes on their communities.

The need for enhanced vigilance and collaborative efforts between security forces and local stakeholders is paramount to curb the scourge of terrorism and restore peace and stability to the region.
