Speakership: Abbas, Kalu Woo LP Reps-elect

House of Representatives, ‘Joint Task of the 10th National Assembly’ on Thursday wooed the Labour Party to endorse Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

The Chinda-led team during a courtesy visit to the Abure-led National Working Committe in Abuja said they came to talk to the party and to ask for their support.

“Mr chairman and our dear leaders, we are here to present to you today Hon Tajudeen Abbas and Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the 10th National Assembly and to seek your support.”

He said the Labour Party is an important party in the Parliament that cannot be side lined.

“The party is ably represented in the national assembly, and therefore they must be part of everything that happening in the Parliament”.

The adopted Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu said the reason for their visit is to asked for the Labour Party’s permission.

“We recognize you, and we have come to identify with you today and to ask for your kind permission to work with your members in the Parliament.”

In his reaction, the National Chairman of LP, Comrade Julius Abure, thanked the group for the visit.

He said having listened to them, their vision for the 10th House of Representatives matches with the party’s own vision of what the nation’s parliament should be.

“Labour Party is looking forward to a proactive and vibrant House of Representatives that will work for the good of the nation.”

Abure however told the Lawmakers that he will get back to them after due consultation with the Party executives.

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the President-elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, had adopted Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu for Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively for the 10th National Assembly.
