Slain Soldiers: President Tinubu Condemns Attack, Vows Justice

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound condemnation and grief over the unprovoked killing of officers and soldiers affiliated with the 63 Brigade in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a statement conveyed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu pledged to ensure the perpetrators face justice and reiterated his commitment to preserving peace across the nation.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, during a rescue mission amidst a crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities, resulted in the tragic loss of lives. Among the fallen were a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, twelve soldiers, and one civilian.

President Tinubu, echoing the sentiments of Nigerians and the armed forces, extended heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased.

Recognizing the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen soldiers, President Tinubu emphasized the gravity of the attack, describing it as a direct assault on the nation itself. He affirmed the unwavering commitment of his government to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, particularly those serving in the armed forces.

The Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff have been granted full authority to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators swiftly.

President Tinubu concluded with a solemn invocation for peace and blessings upon the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its armed forces. He reaffirmed his government’s relentless pursuit of peace and tranquility in every region, promising resolute action to uphold the honor and security of the nation.

The nation mourns the loss of these brave servicemen and women, whose sacrifice will forever be remembered as they join the ranks of those who gave their lives in service to their country.
