Slain Kwara monarch’s abducted wife released, police arrest 13

Police in Kwara have confirmed the release of Olori Iyabo Aremu, wife of the Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti, late Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole and her adopted maid identified as Feranmi.

They were both abducted after the murder of the monarch by some gunmen last Thursday.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed the release of the late monarch’s wife.

The police added that 13 suspects were arrested in the course of the rescue operation.

It read, “In the course of an investigation, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, approved the deployment of a police chopper for aerial surveillance. This was to help comb the forest/boundary between Kwara and Ekiti states.

“A joint operation comprising the police, military, DSS, and vigilante/hunters who tirelessly combed the forest yielded positive results. This operation led to the successful rescue of the wife to the late monarch and one other at about 22:30hours of Monday.”

The police also stated that the rescued kidnap victims have been reunited with their families, hale and hearty.

The statement added that “these suspects are undergoing vigorous interrogation to aid the arrest of members of the gang at large.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, urged the public to be calm and security conscious as they go about their daily activities without fear or anxiety.”
