Scam alert: Our Registrar owns no social media accounts – JAMB

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Friday, raised the alarm over a LinkedIn account purportedly owned by its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

JAMB, in a statement by its spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the fake account had been sending friend requests to unsuspecting members of the public.

Benjamin described this as a ploy initiated with the sole aim of defrauding unsuspecting and gullible members of the public.

“The Board wishes to state that Prof. Is-haq Oloyede does not own or operate any social media account and neither has he asked anybody to open or manage one on his behalf,” the statement partly read.

While noting that LinkedIn is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community, it stated, “As such, it should be noted that the goal of the site is to enable registered users to connect with people they know and trust professionally, he said, Prof. Oloyede does not belong to this class of individuals nor intend to join.”

JAMB said the disclaimer became necessary following the opening by some unscrupulous elements of a LinkedIn account purportedly on behalf of its Registrar to hoodwink unsuspecting members of the public with their bogus claims of the erudite professor helping to network business enterprises, managing careers, providing jobs, running a research firm or connecting people with business contacts of firms or industry through the account.

The Board, therefore, warned the general public to be wary of these criminal elements in order not to fall victims and be scammed.
