Save Zamfara from banditry, we’re under siege, Gov Lawal begs Tinubu

In a heart-wrenching plea for assistance, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has implored President Bola Tinubu to come to the aid of the state, which is currently besieged by relentless banditry attacks.

Speaking to reporters after a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu, Governor Lawal expressed deep concern over the escalating banditry crisis ravaging the state.

He painted a grim picture of the situation, describing Zamfara as an epicenter of banditry that is spiraling out of control, with recent attacks plunging several local governments into turmoil.

Lawal emphasized the urgent need for increased military presence and equipment to effectively combat the security challenges plaguing the state.

He revealed, “Zamfara has become the center of banditry… If nothing is done in Zamfara state, I don’t think we will be able to solve the situation in the entire northern Nigeria.”

The governor recounted the harrowing ordeal faced by the state, including the abduction of school children and other victims, lamenting the dire consequences of the crisis.

He highlighted the state government’s proactive measures, such as the launch of the Community Protection Guard, to collaborate with security forces in tackling the insurgency.

Lawal stressed the limitations faced by state governors in controlling the military and police forces, underscoring the federal government’s responsibility in issuing directives and providing support in times of crisis.

Despite the efforts of the Community Protection Guard and security operatives, Lawal acknowledged the challenges posed by the complex terrain and the need for coordinated action.

Amidst the chaos and despair gripping Zamfara, Governor Lawal’s appeal to President Tinubu for assistance underscores the gravity of the situation and the desperate need for immediate intervention.

As the state grapples with the relentless onslaught of banditry, the hopes of its residents rest on the promise of decisive action to stem the tide of violence and restore peace and stability to the embattled region.
