Rivers crisis: Tinubu meets Fubara behind closed doors

. Gov says visit private

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday, held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Fubara, who arrived at the Villa around 5.35 pm, left over an hour later.

But he refused to disclose the purpose of his visit to State House Correspondents.

When pressed for comments, Governor Fubara simply said it was a private visit.

Thursday’s meeting came weeks after the Rivers Governor met the President alongside his estranged political godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Although the agenda of Fubara’s visit was not made public at the time of filing this report, it may not be unconnected with the political crisis between him and the FCT Minister, his estranged godfather.

Tinubu had on December 18, 2023 intervened in the political crisis between the Governor and the FCT minister.

According to an eight-point resolution signed at the end of the meeting, the President directed that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team regarding the political crisis in the state be withdrawn immediately.

Those who signed the resolution included Fubara; Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Ordu; the FCT Minister, Wike; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Speaker, Rivers State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; PDP Chairman, Rivers State, Aaron Chukwuemeka and APC Chairman, Rivers State, Tony Okocha.

According to the directive, Fubara was mandated to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill he had earlier presented to the four-member state House of Assembly to a full House.
