Rival cults’ clash claims 20 lives in Ogun

A violent clash between two rival cult gangs has reportedly claimed the lives of 20 persons while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in some parts of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The violent clash between Eiye and Aiye confraternities, it was gathered, began two weeks ago and no fewer than 20 persons have been killed and several others seriously injured within the period.

The violent inter-cult clash has thrown Ijebu-Ode and its environs in panic as residents in areas such as Epe garage, Ejinrin road, Adefisan, Ibadan garage, Onirugba and Tatina, old Benin-Ondo road among others, have been gripped by constant fears.

It was gathered that a woman and her daughter riding in a commercial tricycle, popularly called Marwa, were shot dead during the clash.

Members of the rival cult group were said to have targeted the rider of the tricycle, who belonged to another cult group.

The rampaging cultists were said to have also killed an apprentice in the area after chopping of his arms.

An unspecified number of people were reportedly killed in Epe garage, Ejinrin road, Ibadan-garage and Adefisan during the cult clash which sent residents scampering for safety.

Few others persons were, however, said to have lost their lives in Onirugba, old Benin-Ondo road, Oke-Owa.

Two persons were reportedly killed, on Monday, behind a popular hotel in the Oke-Aje area of Ijebu-Ode.

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

He, however, denied the killing of any innocent person during the clash.
