Rail services grounded as railway workers commence three-day nationwide strike

Railway workers in the country on Thursday grounded rail services nationwide as they embarked on a three-day warning strike.

The industrial action by the workers shut down passenger and cargo train services of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

Railway workers in Idu, Abuja, locked the station and displayed various placards in protest.

Also in Lagos, angry workers at the Mobolaji Johnson Train Station in Ebute-Metta, displayed placards, decrying poor welfare and poor salary.

At the Professor Wole Soyinka railway station in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, the protesting workers also ensured there was no train services.

Earlier on Wednesday, NRC employees under the aegis of the Nigerian Union of Railway Workers, had threatened they would put a stop to train operations nationwide including services on the popular Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna, and Warri-Itakpe routes.
