Projects like RAAMP more beneficial than monetary hand-outs, Ogun Perm Sec advises

The newly deployed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development, Engr. Shakirudeen Salaam has advised government at all levels to concentrate more on impactful projects and less on monetary hand-outs.

Addressing members of the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) of the Ogun State Rural Access And Agricultural Marketing Project (OG-RAAMP) during his maiden working visit to the office over the weekend, the PS said the State government recognition of the Governor, by a section of the Media as Governor of the year was borne out of his impactful projects.

The PS, who commended the State Governor, Omooba Dapo Abiodun for buying into the Rural Access And Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), said his believe in improving the financial situation of the ruralites informed the Governor’s disposition.

“I’m aware Ogun State is not the only State partaking in this project, we have a couple of other States which are partaking. It shows strong desire to really take farmers and market women out of the poverty brackets,” the PS stated while admonishing members of the SPIU to do everything humanly possible to ensure the success of the project.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting Project Coordinator of RAAMP in the State, Engr. Waheed Adejumo, said the project would enhance the financial status of the beneficiaries when completed.

According to him, pressure on the urban infrastructure would be reduced when the project is completed

His words: “The various interventions which are our focus are rehabilitation, upgrading, backlog and spot improvement all of which will reduce pressure on urban facilities and make them last when things are in order in the hinterland.”
