Pro-Fubara lawmakers confirm eight commissioners for Rivers State cabinet

The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, has confirmed the appointment of eight nominees as commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council, in a move seen as bolstering Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.

The screening and confirmation process, initiated in response to a request by Governor Fubara, underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing governance and strengthening its executive team.

Among the confirmed commissioners designated are individuals with diverse backgrounds and extensive experience in public service.

Notable among the nominees are Charles Bekee, a respected figure in the manufacturing sector who previously chaired the Rivers/Bayelsa Branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, and Collins Onunwo and Solomon Eke, both former Caretaker Committee Chairmen of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Additionally, the list includes seasoned professionals such as Dr. Peter Medee, former Commissioner for Energy, and Barrister Elloka Tasie-Amadi, former Commissioner for Works in the immediate past administration.

Also appointed are Basoene Benibo, Tambari Sydney-Gbara, and Dr. Ovy Chukwuma, individuals with diverse expertise poised to contribute to the state’s development agenda.

The confirmation proceedings, the second under Speaker Oko-Jumbo’s leadership, were conducted with a focus on ensuring the nominees’ suitability for their respective roles.

During deliberations, the Leader of the House, Sokari Goodboy, underscored the nominees’ track records of service to the state, urging their confirmation by the House.

In his remarks, Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo commended Governor Fubara for his achievements over the past year, highlighting the administration’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the people. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering support for the governor’s agenda, urging continued focus and dedication in governance.

The confirmation of the commissioners signals a new phase in Governor Fubara’s administration, as it seeks to harness the expertise and experience of its team to address the state’s developmental challenges and advance the welfare of its citizens.
