President Tinubu offers scholarships to children of soldiers killed in Delta

In a poignant ceremony at the military cemetery in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu announced scholarships for the children of the 17 soldiers who lost their lives in the Okuama community of Bomadi LGA, Delta State.

The president also posthumously honored the fallen heroes with national awards during the burial ceremony.

President Tinubu’s address underscored the nation’s gratitude for the soldiers’ ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of peace.

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, emphasizing their crucial role in safeguarding the memory and legacy of the fallen soldiers.

“It is now our duty to protect the families of our departed heroes,” President Tinubu remarked solemnly.

“The federal government will provide housing in any part of our country to each of the families, along with scholarships for all the children of the deceased up to the university level.”

The president called upon the Okuama community elders to collaborate with the military in identifying those responsible for the tragic incident. He urged swift action in ensuring justice for the fallen soldiers and their families.

The names of the fallen soldiers – A.H Ali, D.E Obi, S.D. Ashafa, U. Zakari, Yahaya Saidu, Danbaba Yahaya, Kabir Bashir, Abdullahi Ibrahim, Bulus Haruna, Sole Opeyemi, Bello Anas, Alhaji Isah, Clement Francis, Abubakar Ali, Adamu Ibrahim, Hamman Peter, and Ibrahim Adamu – were solemnly honored during the ceremony.

The tragic loss of the 17 soldiers occurred on March 14 during a peacekeeping mission in the Okuama community.

Both federal and state governments have vowed to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.

President Tinubu’s announcement of scholarships and housing support reflects the nation’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of its brave servicemen and women.

As the families of the fallen soldiers navigate their grief, the promise of education and housing offers a beacon of hope amidst the darkness of loss.

The president concluded his address by directing the military to expedite the disbursement of benefits owed to the families within the next ninety days, ensuring they receive the support and recognition they rightfully deserve.
