Presidency denies reports of N105,000 minimum wage proposal

The Presidency has refuted circulating reports claiming that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Federal Government negotiating team have suggested N105,000 as the new minimum wage.

Following a nationwide strike declared by organized labor, the Federal Government engaged in discussions with union leaders and reached an agreement.

Subsequently, President Bola Tinubu directed the Finance Minister to present a new minimum wage template within 48 hours.

Although Onanuga and his team met with the president on Thursday, they did not disclose the outcome of the meeting.

However, rumors emerged that Edun’s team proposed N105,000 as the new minimum wage.

Dismissing these claims, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, labeled the reports as false.

He clarified in a tweet: “The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false.”

The denial from the Presidency aims to clarify misconceptions and set the record straight regarding the proposed minimum wage, emphasizing the need for accurate information amidst ongoing negotiations and discussions.
