The police in Bayelsa State have confirmed the arraignment in court of one Kelvin Ekuere, aged 35, from Koluama community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State for alleged illegal possession of firearms.

Spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, said Ekuere was arrested over alleged illegal possession of firearms and had been charged to court on Friday.

The suspect had claimed to be working with one Tibiebi Amadein, a nephew and Chief Security Officer to the Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, Senator Cleopas Moses and the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Police sources, however, said though Kelvin Ekuere was arrested for alleged illegal possession of firearms, he and his alleged boss, Amadein, were being investigated for alleged involvement in a purported kidnapping attempt of Chief Patrick Ekubo at Akenfa 3 community in Yenagoa, the state capital.

It was gathered that despite a series of invitations by the police, the Assistant Publicity Secetary had yet to honour them or give a written explanation for his absence.
