Ortom speaks up on arrest by EFCC

Immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has denied reports of his arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Earlier on Tuesday, reports had emerged on social media that the former governor was taken into custody by the anti-graft agency in Makurdi on Monday.

But Ortom in a statement on Tuesday night by his media aide, Terver Akase, said he only honoured an invitation by the EFCC.

The statement said Ortom “was neither arrested nor detained at the EFCC Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi.

“Contrary to insinuations in some sections of the media, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom today visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to honour the invitation of the commission.

“The former Governor has repeatedly said that he is available to respond to inquiries by anti-graft agencies as he has nothing to hide regarding his stewardship of Benue State.”
