Ondo 2024: Aiyedatiwa to declare intention to seek fresh term Tuesday

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will on Tuesday officially announce his intention to continue in office after completing the tenure of late former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in February next year.

Earlier in an interview, Aiyedatiwa had given the hint, saying nobody would want to govern a state for just one year.

His Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, in a statement on Monday, said the Governor Aiyedatiwa would declare his intention on Tuesday while hosting stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State.

“During the meeting, Mr. Governor will formally inform the APC leaders of his intention to seek the ticket of the party ahead of the coming governorship election,” the statement partly read.

Aiyedatiwa was sworn-in December last year after the sudden death of governor Akeredolu.

The incumbent Governor has dissolved the cabinet he inherited and reappointed six former aides of Akeredolu.

The others gunning for the Ondo APC governorship ticket include a former Finance Commissioner, Wale Akinterinwa; business mogul, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim; Chief Olusola Oke; a former NDDC Commissioner, Hon Olugbenga Edema, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mayowa Akinfolarin, a former President of the Nigeria Medical Association, Prof. Dayo Faduliye, Dr
Paul Akintelure, Chief Matthew Oyerinmade, among others.

Aiyedatiwa’s critics have accused him of appointing enemies of his former boss.

They also accused him of dumping ideals of Akeredolu by shaving the Akeredolu’s styled beard he carried in the last three years as Deputy Governor.

But many other stakeholders in the state have declared support for Aiyedatiwa’s ambition to seek a fresh term as Governor of the state.
