Nigeria in blackout as country experiences first grid collapse in 2024

Nigeria was on Sunday thrown into darkness as the country experienced its first electricity power grid collapse in 2024.

It was learnt that the grid collapsed at 11:21am on Sunday.

The incident resulted in the shut down of all 20 power plants, except Ibom Power with 31 megawatts.

Confirming the incident, the Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc said the power outage was due to system failure from the national grid “at 11:21 hours today, 4th February 2024 which has led to a nationwide power outage.”

The AEDC appealed for patience among its customers and assured that that it is working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized.
