NFF invites Onuachu to replace injured Simon

Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, has received another late call-up from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to the Nigerian squad to replace injured Moses Simon ahead of the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone.

This is the second time in recent weeks that the Racing Genk of Belgium star performer has been drafted in to replace an unavailable player originally included for a national assignment.

Last month, Onuachu was summoned at short notice by the NFF for the international friendlies with Algeria and Tunisia after Victor Osimhen was barred from traveling as the Napoli players were ordered into quarantine following three positive COVID-19 cases.

1stnewsonline.com gathered that the former FC Midtjylland man was called up after Nantes winger Moses Simon was ruled out injured, the NFF said on Monday.

Simon subbed out in the 25th minute of Nantes’ 3-0 loss to PSG on Saturday night after sustaining an adductor injury.

The 26-year-old Onuachu has been capped seven times by Nigeria.

The Super Eagles, who are first in Group L of the AFCON qualifiers, take on Sierra Leone at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on November 13 and face the same opponents at Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown four days later.
