Less than a week after celebrity crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, was jailed for naira abuse, the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will on Wednesday, arraign a businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, before the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegation of abuse of the Naira.
Following the sentencing of Bobrisky, Nigerians had flooded social media handles of the anti-graft agency with videos of different celebrities spraying the Naira at social functions.
EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, had acknowledged the videos, assuring that the anti-graft agency was already on the trail of some other celebrities.
Cubana Chief Priest, it was learnt, will be arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on a three-count charge of spraying and tampering with the Naira notes at a social function contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The EFCC alleged in the charge filed by its prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, and seven other lawyers representing the anti-graft agency’s Executive Chairman, that Okechukwu Pascal, aka Cubana Chief Priest, on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing at a social gathering, tampered with Naira notes in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, thereby committing an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
Count 2 of the charge alleged “that you, Okechukwu Pasca,l sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”
Count 3 read, “That you, Okechukwu Pasca,l sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”
