N2.1bn Fraud: No escape for Maina as A’Court upholds his eight-year sentence

Former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, has lost his appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja against his conviction and eight-year sentence for money laundering of about N2.1 billion.

A three-member panel unanimously upheld the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, convicting and sentencing him in November 2021.

Maina was found guilty of money laundering and concealing his true identity as a signatory to accounts opened in two banks.

The court also found him guilty of stealing money meant for pensioners and for the purchase of a property in Abuja paid in cash, which is above the statutory threshold of N5million and without passing through a financial institution.
