Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State has commissioned a new market aimed at promoting the autonomy of local government administration.
During the commissioning ceremony, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Dass Local Government, Comrade Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, stated that in addition to the commissioning of the BAM New Market, a grant empowerment of N50 million was provided to selected individuals in the local government area.
He said that the local government leadership have initiated numerous programmes that includes the provision of clean water in some communities, renovations of some dilapidated primary School Structures and provision Educational Materials such as teaching and learning aids.
Other interventions according to him include the provision of health care facilities to some Health Facilities across the Local Government and investment in security matters due to the in-flow of some miscreants into the local government from other states, a development he noted has brought peace in the Local Government as people go about their farming and business activities without any fear of being attacked.
“Today’s occasion is timely considering the economic hardship being experienced not only in the local government but also the whole state and Nigeria as a whole. We are here to commission the new Market to boost economic activity in the local government and distribute some items and money worth the total sum of Fifty Million Naira only to the most needy and vulnerable individuals across the local government.
“It is our believe that this will help a lot in improving the economic power of these individuals. We also assure our people that more a of these programmes are on the way, considering the enormous support, opened door policy and total freedom we are receiving from his Excellency the executive governor of Bauchi State” he said
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people and thanked the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Abdulkadir Mohammed (Wazirin Dass), for enabling effective service through the realization of Local Government Autonomy in the State.
Abubakar Jibo emphasized that this autonomy places them among the few local governments in Nigeria operating independently, without interference, attributing it as the key to their developmental projects.
He assured the people of more forthcoming programs, highlighting the support and freedom received from the Governor.
Acknowledging the support from the Emir of Dass, Dr. Usman Bilyaminu Othman, and Hon. Commissioner Alhaji Ahmed Sarki Jalam, he expressed gratitude to the people and pledged to uplift Dass for a better life.
The Commissioner of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Aliyu Sarki Ahmad Jalam, commended the Caretaker Chairman for complementing the administration’s efforts in delivering democracy dividends.
He highlighted the necessity of empowerment programs during times of hardship and thanked the Emir of Dass for honoring the Governor with the Traditional title of Wazirin Dass.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dass, Usman Bilyaminu Othman II, appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for addressing the challenges facing the people and called for continuous support.
