Land grabbing: Estate agent cries out over killings in Ikorodu, threat to his life

…calls on IGP, Lagos, Ogun police commissioners to urgently intervene

A front line Estate Agent based in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Mr Lateef Ganiu, has raised the alarm over alleged attempt to kill him by a business rival and land grabbing kingpin.

Ganiu claimed that he had of late been receiving intermittent strange calls from unknown persons, threatening his life and his family members.

The Estate Agent fingered his business rival, whom he described as “a notorious land grabber that would not care a hoot to crush anything on his way to achieving his determined goal.”

He disclosed that he became worried following the recent killings in the area, which included that of a policeman by suspected cultists at the Emuren junction area of Ikorodu, which, according to him, was not done in isolation.

The fear-stricken estate agent/community leader, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr.Usman Baba Alkali; Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa and the Ogun State police boss, AIG Frank Mba, to urgently come to his aid by launching a coordinated investigation into the murderous activities of the blood-thirsty street gangs in the Ikorodu axis with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problems constituted by “these leading land grabbers in Lagos and Ogun states, respectively. These killings bear their signature. He is known to the police, going by the array of homicide related cases he has in courts and some designated police stations across the two states.”

Responding to a question put to him by our correspondent, the Estate Agent said, “The problem started when I bought land from the Onosa Royal Family in Abatiwa after they got a court judgement. One man called “Sir K” has been attacking the community, ostensibly working for the losers in the court case. And I think the best thing would have been for them to go to the Appeal Court, which is never on their card. Rather, they resorted to killing, maiming, blackmail, threat and intimidation.

“Many people have been killed in Abatiwa in the recent past allegedly by his boys, who are cult members from Emuren. Two estate agents, Gbadamosi Latteef, popularly known as Alanlat, lost three of his workers there. Another estate agent, Bush also lost two of his boys to the seemingly faceless killer squad.”

Continuing, he said, “Already, the police in Ogun State are looking for these murderous gangsters in connection with the killing of Kamoru Anifowose and one other person in the same Abatiwa.”

The Estate Agent stated further, “After I discovered that he was bringing armed thugs to my land, I contacted the family that sold the land to me and the matter was reported to the Ogun State Task Force on Land Grabbing.

“The task force invited “Sir K” to come and explain his claim on the land but instead of coming, he resorted to harassing the family and continued to invade Abatiwa with armed cultists.”

He further alleged, “My life is in serious danger now! I heard that suspected cult members from Emuren attacked policemen at Emuren junction on Thursday.

“These boys and their sponsor /leader appear to be above the law in Ikorodu, Lagos and neighbouring Ogun State communities. The police should ensure their arrest and diligent investigations and prosecution.

“They {the gangsters} have wreaked much havoc in many communities in Ikorodu, which include Isiwu, Ogijo, Iraye, Gberigbe, Imota and other places.”

Ganiu, therefore, pleaded with the authorities and security agencies in the two states to earnestly look into the problems of land grabbing in Lagos/Ogun.

“The commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun and the Inspector General of Police should please come to my aid. I don’t want to be killed by these people whose stock-in-trade is wanton destruction of lives and property.

“We, the law-abiding citizens would not just be looking and allow these killers to have their way, more so now that they have become more daring as they attack even law enforcement agents. We believe in the powers of the police to do their job by bringing the perpetrators of the heinous acts to book.”

However, several attempts made by our correspondent to speak with the said Sir K were unsuccessful as he was said to have gone out to an unknown place in company with three of his aides identified as Emmanuel Abiodun aka Stainless Akeem alias Spirit and Adeline Omonowo aka Olotu Asin.
