Kano govt dismisses reports of violent protests amid emirate tussle

The Kano State Government has refuted claims of widespread violent protests in the state following the recent abrogation of the four emirates and the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sunusi II as the Emir of Kano.

In a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Dantiye, the government clarified that such reports were misrepresented by some sections of the media.

Dantiye addressed the concerns, stating, “The Kano State Government noted with grave concern the reports by some sections of the media on the grossly exaggerated and misrepresented alleged violent protests in some parts of the state regarding the recent abrogation of the four emirates and reinstatement of His Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.”

Contrary to the media reports, the government asserted that there have been no widespread violent protests in the state.

Dantiye emphasized, “While the government is aware of isolated incidents in a few areas by a handful of small children and hired miscreants and thugs, these do not in any way reflect the overall situation.”

He further elaborated on the motivations behind these incidents, attributing them to unpatriotic individuals aiming to destabilize the state for personal gain and selfish interests.

Dantiye stressed that the majority of citizens in Kano have exhibited remarkable restraint and understanding of the state government’s actions.

Acknowledging the political dynamics at play, Dantiye highlighted the manipulation of the situation by certain political actors to sow chaos and unrest.

He cautioned against falling prey to false narratives propagated by these elements through the media, emphasizing that their actions do not represent the genuine sentiments of the citizens of Kano State.

Amid the fluid situation in Kano, where supporters of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, took to the streets to demand his reinstatement, the reinstated Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, received a warm reception from the people as he emerged from the main palace in the city.

The statement reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the state while upholding law and order and protecting the rights of citizens.

The public was urged to disregard sensationalized media reports and support the government’s efforts to foster unity and development in Kano.

The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf, affirmed its dedication to the progress and prosperity of the state, calling on all citizens to unite in pursuit of this shared goal.
