KALU’S ASSIST EARNS BORDEAUX VICTORY

Nigeria winger, Samuel Kalu, bagged an assist as Girondis Bordeaux recorded a 1-0 away win against Stade Rennes in their Ligue 1 game at the Roazhon Park on Friday night.

Kalu teed up Harem Ben Arfa for the triumphing goal eight minutes earlier to the break.

He, however, didn’t complete the game as he was replaced by Remi Oudin a minute after the hour mark.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals in seven league appearances for Les Girondis this season.

Kalu’s teammate Josh Maja was also involved in the game.

Maja was changed by Jimmy Briand on the hour mark.

The victory took Bordeaux to 11th place on the Ligue 1 table with 15 points from eleven games.

Prior to the fixture, the Nigeria international had not figured for club and country since he went off injured in the second half of the Super Eagles 1-0 loss to Algeria in an international friendly on October 9.

Bordeaux manager Jean-Louis Gasset suggested at the pre-match press conference ahead of the visit to Rennes that the Super Eagles star would not be rushed back into action and his surprise decision to hand him a shock start backfired on him when the Nigerian suffered a relapse of his injury.
