Just In: XEJET aircraft skids off runway at Lagos Airport

In a concerning development, an aircraft belonging to XEJET Airlines veered off the runway and landed in the grass at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Saturday.

This incident occurred just 16 days after the shutdown of Dana Air by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authorities.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria promptly responded to the situation by closing the 18/Left runway of the airport.

The Airbus, registered as 5N-BZZ and carrying 52 passengers, had departed from Abuja and was scheduled to land in Lagos at 11:29 am. However, upon arrival, the aircraft skidded off the runway, prompting swift action from airport authorities.

Confirming the incident, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) stated that the XEJET Airlines aircraft had indeed veered off the runway at the domestic wing of the airport.

This latest incident raises concerns about aviation safety in Nigeria and underscores the need for thorough investigations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
