IPOB invitation: Police hand over arrested Igbo leader to DSS

Police in Lagos have confirmed the arrest of the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Fredrick Nwajagu.

The police also disclosed that Nwajagu had been taken into the custody of the Department of State Services.

The Igbo leader was arrested on Saturday by a joint team of policemen and DSS operatives.

His arrest followed his threat to invite members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra to secure the properties of Igbo people in the state.

Nwajagu, while speaking in a viral video on Friday, had said, “We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning and in the afternoon.

“When they discover that we have our security, they will think twice before attacking us. I am not saying a single word to be hidden.”

He also enjoined the public to make his threat go viral.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said Nwajagu was arrested in a nocturnal raid.

The PPRO said, “The operation was carried out at midnight. The security operatives didn’t meet him in his palace. But we found out through intelligence gathering that he had lodged in a hotel in Ejigbo.

“He was traced to the location and arrested around 1 am.

“He is currently in the DSS custody where he is being investigated.”

DSS spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunaya, could not be reached for comment. Calls made to his phone were not answered.

He also did not reply to a text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
