‘I am in disbelief’, Atiku reacts to Blinken’s call to Tinubu

…says US Secretary of State’s calll acknowledgement of ‘fraudulent election

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has responded to the phone call made by Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, to President-elect Bola Tinubu.

Blinken had called Tinubu on Tuesday to express the United States’ commitment to partnering with the incoming administration.

He emphasized that the US-Nigeria partnership is based on shared interests and strong people-to-people connections, which should continue to strengthen during Tinubu’s tenure.

However, in a tweet on Wednesday, Abubakar stated that Blinken’s call to Tinubu contradicted the US stance on the general election.

“I am in disbelief that Anthony Blinken, US secretary, called Tinubu, a contradiction to the publicly stated position of the US on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election,” Atiku said.

“This is inconceivable considering that America, as the bastion of democracy, is well briefed on the sham election of February 25.

“To give legitimacy to the widely acknowledged fraudulent election in Nigeria can be demoralising to citizens who have hedged their bet on democracy and the sanctity of the ballot,” the PDP candidate added.
