How EFCC invaded Gbenga Daniel’s Hotel, allegedly stripped, robbed, arrested guests

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission allegedly invaded a hotel belonging to a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in the early hours of Sunday.

FirstNews gathered that the officials shot repeatedly to instill fear in the guests at the hotel before carrying out their operation.

Meanwhile, according to The Peoples Gazette, the operatives stripped some of the guests at the hotel naked as they conducted a search in the hotel.

Scores of guests were allegedly arrested during the operation, with many of them said to be Internet fraudsters, even though no outstanding warrants were presented against them.

“They accused my friend Emmanuel of being a Yahoo boy and stripped him and his girlfriend,” a witness told The Gazette on Sunday morning. “They were also robbed of their money and phones before being badly tortured.”

Emmanuel, whose last name was not provided to The Gazette, was freed at the scene with his girlfriend.

“He was not taken away but we don’t know how we can get his phones and money back,” his friend who witnessed the incident said.

A video that surfaced online included sounds of gunshots and women scampering for safety, fearing that they might be fatally shot by rogue officers attached to the anti-graft agency.

Loyalists of Daniel, who was governor of Ogun State from 2003-2011, reportedly stormed the hotel to frustrate the EFCC operation, a witness said, but it was unclear whether or not they were successful.
