Gunmen ambush, kill eight soldiers, policemen in Imo

No fewer than eight security agents, including soldiers, policemen and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were on Tuesday morning killed by gunmen in Imo State.

The incident occurred in Umualumaku community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident has thrown residents of the area into panic as many had already relocated from the community to escape reprisals from the security agencies.

The joint security taskforce team traveling in two security trucks were ambushed and set ablaze by the unknown gunmen.

None of the security agents survived as they were all burnt inside their operational vehicles.

It was gathered that reinforcement teams had been sent to the scene of the crime to arrest the suspected assailants and recover the corpses of the slain security operatives.

A resident, who pleaded not to be identified, claimed to have seen the security agents a few minutes before they were ambushed and set ablaze by their attackers.

He said that the community had been thrown into confusion as a result of the crime.

A video clip of the attack on the killing of the security agents have gone viral on social media.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident.

Okoye, however, said he should be given some time to get the full details of the tragic incident.
