‘Grow something’ First Lady Oluremi Tinubu tells Nigerians

In a bid to encourage self-sufficiency and food security in Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic, reiterated the importance of agricultural production, stating, “Everybody should grow something.”

This call to action came during her meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, at the State House in Abuja.

Senator Tinubu emphasized the significance of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), particularly its interventions in agriculture, empowerment, education, health, and social welfare. These efforts, she noted, aim to complement the initiatives of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and contribute to building a more respected and accountable Nigeria.

During the meeting, Senator Tinubu highlighted the need to inspire Nigerian youths to prioritize national unity over tribal affiliations.

To this end, the RHI has launched the #ONE NIGERIA/Unity Fabric project, inviting youths aged 15 to 25 to design fabric depicting Nigeria as a whole, with substantial prize incentives.

Addressing the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Senator Tinubu disclosed that the RHI had initiated monthly food outreach programs for IDPs and persons with disabilities, reaffirming her commitment to serving the people despite challenges.

In response, Deputy Secretary General Aisha Mohammed expressed the UN’s eagerness for Nigeria to allocate more resources to youth, women, and girls, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in areas such as women empowerment, poverty alleviation, and education.

The UN also introduced Mohamed Fall, the new Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, during the visit.
