Honourable Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba has disclosed that the alleged plan super-imposition by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila of Hon Abbas Tajuddeen as his succesor Speaker of the 10th Assembly is dangerous to Nigeria’s democracy.
He made the statement at a Press Conference in Abuja over the alleged super-imposition of a member as a candidate in a Democratic setting, calling it an anomaly, undemocratic, dictatorship and a grave danger to democracy, as his preferred candidate, Honourable Mukhtar Aliyu Betara is unbeatable.
Honourable Nalaraba who is a returning member of the House of Representatives, representing Awe, Doma and Keana federal constituency said, “Members of the House of Representatives are Democrats who have been elected on the platform of registered political parties.
” We are elected by our constituents to come, deliberate, elect our Leaders to legislate for the country’s growth and development, we wouldn’t fail our people by allowing a superimposed colleague who is not known, doesn’t have inclusivity in his little circle and who doesn’t want open and fair contest within his colleagues, but wants to be hoisted on Democrats.” He said.
Honourable Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba said that he and most of the returning, new members and those from outside the All Progressives Congress, (APC) are fully loyal, will support and vote for Honourable Mukhtar Betara for the post of Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
He said some of the qualities of Betara are the support of about 200 supporters and counting, he didn’t delay passage of the budget for years, being the chairman of House Committee on Appropriation; co-option of members to his Committee who were not assigned chairmanship of other committees, which stabilized the House; He has a listening ear from members and staff; he stabilize the house against any issue or threat of impeachment against Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila amongst other distinct qualities unlike the past Assemblies.
The Lawmaker however called on all well meaning Nigerians to support Honourable Mukhtar Betara to be duly elected as Speaker for him to continue the legislation of laws for the growth and development of the country at large.
