Five die, eight injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway auto crash

Five persons have died in an auto crash that occurred on Monday around Fidiwo axis on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State.

Eight persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident.

Involved in the crash were a Mazda bus with registration number: EKY582 YE and a Mercedes Benz truck with no registration number.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Florence Okpe confirmed this to newsmen in Abeokuta in a statement on Monday.

Okpe said that that cause of the auto crash was as a result of excessive speed on the part of the truck driver which led to tyre bust and lost of control of the vehicle ramming onto the bus on motion.

She said that a total number of 15 persons( eight male adult and seven female adult) were involved in the accident, eight persons( five male adult and three female adult) sustained injuries and five persons were recorded dead (four male adult and one female adult).

The chief route commander said that the injured victims had been taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere while the corpses had been deposited at State General Hospital, Isara.

The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector CC Anthony Uga expressed sorrow over the unfortunate incident.

Uga, therefore, advised motorists to pay more attention on tyres and avoid the use of worn- out or expired tyres.
