Five die, 12 injured on Lagos-Ibadan expressway multiple auto crash

Five persons died on Sunday in a multiple auto crash around Foursquare Church camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State.

Twelve persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident.

Vehicles involved in the crash include a DAF truck with the registration number: KMC- 810ZB; a Toyota bus with registration number: TMA- 244XA and a Mitsubishi pickup with no registration.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Okpe said that the cause of the auto crash was as a result of speed, tyre bust and lose of control on the part of the truck driver whose vehicle crash and occupied the road as others vehicles ran into the crash vehicle.

She said that 21 persons(all male adult) were involved in the accident, 12 persons were injured and five persons died while the rest remain unhurt.

The superintendent route commander said that the injured victims had been taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara.

Sector Commander FRSC Ogun, Anthony Uga, advised motorists to shun the use of sub- standard tyres and also apply common sense speed limit especially in this rainy season.

Uga, also sympathize with the family of the victims and enjoined them to visit FRSC Ogunmakin unit for more information about the crash.
