Five die, 10 injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway auto crash

Five persons have died in a multiple auto crash that occurred on Wednesday around NASFAT turning point on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State.

10 persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident

Involved in the crash were a DAF truck with the registration number: KUT561ZZ, a Toyota Haice Bus with the registration number: GGE84YF and a MAN Diesel truck with no registration number.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Florence Okpe, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement on Wednesday.

Okpe said that the cause of the auto crash was dangerous driving on the part of one of the trucks who made a sudden U-turn without any indication to alert the truck behind which led to lose of control on both the truck and the bus

She said that 15 persons( 11male adult and four female adult) were involved in the accident, 10 persons( six male adult and four female adult) sustained injuries while five( male adult) were recorded dead.

The superintendent route commander said that the injured victims had been taken to Famobi Hospital Mowe and their corpses deposited at Idera Hospital morgue Sagamu.

She said that it took the combined rescue operation FRSC, police and other sister agencies on ground managing the situation.

The Sector Commander, CC Anthony Uga, cautioned motorists on speed and reckless driving, warning that any driver involved in a crash that claim lives will be prosecuted forthwith to serve as deterrent to recalcitrant drivers.

Uga, therefore expressed sorrow over the incessant crashes especially along the corridor axis and further advised motorists to shun speed and drive defensively for safety purpose
