FG allocates N25bn to bolster healthcare services nationwide

In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery across Nigeria, the Federal Government has greenlit the disbursement of N25 billion to bolster the efforts of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, revealed this pivotal development, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to revamping the healthcare sector and achieving Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) for all Nigerians.

Speaking on behalf of the ministry, spokesperson Deworitshe Patricia stated that the approval of a Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) and the Health Sector Renewal Investment Programme (NHSRIP) underscores the government’s strategic vision to transform healthcare accessibility and quality nationwide.

Pate highlighted the critical need for reforms in the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) and its associated programs, emphasizing the importance of enhancing accountability, transparency, and public trust in the healthcare system.

The statement further underscored the commitment of all states and the Federal Capital Territory to a comprehensive remediation plan aimed at improving healthcare services for all Nigerians.

In line with these efforts, the ministry aims to revise guidelines to encompass health services for vulnerable populations, with a specific focus on reducing maternal mortality rates, out-of-pocket expenses, and standardizing healthcare quality across primary healthcare facilities nationwide.

Pate emphasized, “The overarching goal of the Health Sector Renewal Investment Programme is to minimize the need for patients to travel long distances for healthcare services, thereby enhancing the overall health and well-being of Nigerians, particularly those in vulnerable groups.”

This bold initiative signifies a significant stride towards achieving equitable healthcare access and quality for all Nigerians, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s ongoing healthcare transformation efforts.
