The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Water Board, has urged its over 40, 000 customers to pay their bills or risk massive disconnection.
The acting General Manager of the agency, Daniel Salka Audu said the board is determined to increase its internally generated revenue in line with the directive of the Minister of the FCT.
He said the Board will from next week embark on revenue drive and warned those who are owing to pay up or be ready to be disconnected.
He said the FCT Water Board is providing one of the best potable water not only in Nigeria but in the sub region.
He further reminded customers that it takes the Administration huge sums of money to achieve this.
He also called on the Customers to desist from giving the staff money with the claim to helping them pay.
Similarly, he warned staff from doing same and has vowed that any staff caught would be dealt with accordingly; this he said would deter staff from engaging in acts of corruption .
The GM therefore advised the customers to make use of its portal or go to the bank to offset their bills as no staff is allowed to collect cash from its customers.
He said that he will pursue with vigour the mandate of the agency which has the sole responsibility of providing safe, adequate and affordable water supply in accordance with World Health Organization and Nigerian drinking water quality standards to residents of FCT.
Daniel Salka further added that the Board is desirous to improve service delivery in its supply coverage to FCT but this can only happen with the co-operation of its customers.
He decried the situation where some residents engage in illegal connection thereby reducing the pressure of water and subsequently affecting supply to the residents.
He reminded both the Staff and customers that the Board has an Act, the FCT Water Board Establishment Act(2017), which criminalizes illegal connections, diversions, tempering with Water Meters among others and which can lead to fines and or imprisonment as may be determined by the FCT High Court.
