Tragic news has emerged from Cairo, Egypt, as reports confirm the demise of former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde.
At the age of 61, Lamorde breathed his last on Sunday while undergoing medical treatment at an Egyptian hospital.
Lamorde’s tenure as the helmsman of the EFCC spanned from 2012 to 2015, during which he played a pivotal role in the nation’s fight against corruption.
His appointment as acting chairman came on November 23, 2011, following the removal of Farida Waziri by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Subsequently, Lamorde’s confirmation as the third substantive chairman of the commission by the Senate on February 15, 2012, marked a significant milestone in his career.
Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde’s journey in law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts was illustrious.
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1984, before joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1986, where he rose through the ranks to retire as a Deputy Inspector-General.
Lamorde’s association with the EFCC dates back to its inception in 2003 when he was appointed as the pioneer Director of Operations. Over the years, he demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to the agency’s mandate, earning accolades for his exemplary service.
