Ruling All Progressives Congress has adopted direct mode of primary for the election of its gubernatorial candidate for the Edo State governorship poll.
Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed September 21, 2024, for the election, while the APC has fixed February 17 for its primary poll.
Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, after a meeting between the National Working Committee and stakeholders in Edo State which ended late Monday night, the APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, said 29 aspirants had so far signified interest in the race.
But Meseko ruled out zoning of the party’s ticket to a particular zone in the state.
He added that the NWC was prevailing on some aspirants to step down for a few to slug it out at the primaries.
Meseko said the APC is determined to reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party and would adopt all democratic strategies to win the poll.
