EDHA begins impeachment process against Edo Deputy Gov


. Lawmakers allegedly collected $4000 each

The Edo State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against the state Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shaibu.

At resumption of plenary on Wednesday, the Majority Leader of the House Charity Aiguobarueghian, announced the impeachment notice revealing that the petition dated March 5, was signed by 21 out of the 24 members of the house against the deputy governor which is more than the two-third requirement stipulated in the constitution.

The speaker Blessing Agbebaku acknowledged receipt of the petition and directed the clerk, Yahaya Omogbai to serve the impeachment notice on the deputy governor with a seven-day ultimatum to respond to the notice of impeachment.

Addressing the press after plenary, the Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian announced the petition was based on two grounds of perjury and revealing of government secrets.

One of the lawmaker who also signed confided on this reporter that 10,000 dollars was promised to be given to each of the lawmakers that signed the impeachment notice, but 4,000 dollars received so far from the governor.
