Diri, Deputy Ewhrudjakpo, take oath of office for 2nd tenure


… as Bayelsa Gov pledges more development
. Vice President Shettima, Kpang Koung, Jonathan, Obasanjo, Govs, others grace occasion

Governor of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, alongside his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewrhujakpo, on Wednesday, took oath of office for their second tenure at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Ovom, Yenagoa, the state capital.

Diri and his Deputy were sworn in by the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, in a ceremony witnessed by their wives and children as well as many prominent Nigerians.

The event defied party affiliation with the presence of the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima; Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and other top leaders of the ruling party at the centre.

Also in attendance were two former Nigerian Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as well as the Liberian Vice-President, His Excellency, Jeremiah Kpan Koung.

Governor Diri in his remark, pledged to focus attention on economic growth, power supply, agriculture and potable water supply particularly in Yenagoa.

He assured the people of his commitment to provide quality leadership that will guarantee development across sectors.

“I pledge to carry out our responsibilities with diligence and resolute purpose, ensuring that no task is left unfinished, as we strive to create a bequest of sustainable peace and prosperity for our people.

Today, as we embark on this next phase of our journey, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment where the pages of history unfold before us. With boldness, determination, and a spirit of collaboration, we shall overcome obstacles and transform our aspirations into remarkable achievements. We are not naïve to imagine that progress will come effortlessly – it demands unwavering unity, commitment, hard work and perseverance,” Governor Diri stated.

Other dignitaries at the inauguration were the Governors of Delta, Osun, Niger, Oyo, Adamawa, Plateau, Edo and Rivers, Sheriff Oborevwori, Ademola Adeleke, Mohammed Umaru Bago, Seyi Makinde, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Caleb Muftwang, Godwin Obaseki and Siminalayi Fubara, respectively, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District; Senator Bukola Saraki, former Senate President of Nigeria; Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, immediate past governor of Delta State; members of the National Assembly both serving and non-serving, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources(Oil), Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic party, Prince Uche Secondus, former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief David Lyon and other top government officials.
