Debt Bombshell: Gov Fubara exposes Wike’s unsettled project payments, pledges fiscal transparency

Amidst mounting debt concerns and a pushback against the legacy of his predecessor, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has raised alarm over the financial strain left behind by Nyesom Wike’s administration.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, Governor Fubara revealed that many projects commissioned by Wike lacked full funding, with contractors now clamoring for outstanding payments.

The absence of a concrete estimate for the debt further underscores the complexity of the situation, prompting Governor Fubara to break his silence in the face of mounting pressure from political adversaries.

He vowed to provide transparency by presenting a “white paper” detailing project funding, a move aimed at dispelling doubts and addressing the lingering financial challenges.

Governor Fubara’s remarks also shed light on his administration’s stance towards the federal government, emphasizing cooperation despite internal challenges driven by vested interests.

The presence of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, at the commissioning ceremony signified solidarity with progressive governance, with Otti lauding Fubara’s leadership style and dedication to serving the people.

In response, Otti commended Fubara’s commitment to transforming Rivers State, citing his extensive experience in governance. He affirmed Fubara’s resilience in the face of political turbulence, echoing the belief that true leadership stems from service to the people rather than serving select interests.

The commissioning of the Old Bori road marks a significant milestone in infrastructure development, providing a vital alternative route in the Eleme axis of the East-West road.

As Governor Fubara navigates the challenges ahead, his administration’s resolve to address financial constraints and prioritize public service remains steadfast, setting the stage for a new chapter in Rivers State’s trajectory.
