Cyberbullying: VeryDarkMan released after 3 weeks in detention

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the contentious social media critic Martins Otse, fonldy called VeryDarkMan, who faced accusations of cyberbullying.

He was released from police custody on the 10th of June, 2024, after meeting the bail conditions, although the specific terms have not yet been disclosed.

VeryDarkMan was arraigned on the 22nd of May, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges related to cyberstalking.

The Nigerian police accused him of posting offensive videos on Instagram and making indecent allegations against Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.

One charge claimed that he posted videos containing information that was “grossly offensive, pornographic, or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing character.”

Another charge alleged that he accused Iyabo Ojo of having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.

Additionally, police claimed that he suggested Tonto Dikeh was behind the gossip blog Gistlover.

However, he denied all charges, the prosecution sought his remand in prison, but his legal team requested he remain in police custody, which the court approved, leading to his transfer to the National Cybercrime Centre.

Recall that he was initially arrested on the 22nd of March, 2024, and released on March 31.

His lawyer stated that the arrest followed complaints from Tonto Dikeh, Iyabo Ojo, and Samklef.
