Cultist kills one as police arrest four for terrorizing Ogun community

Police in Ogun have arrested four members of Eiye confraternity for allegedly killing one Monday Anthony, and terrorizing the Ifo community in the state.

This is as the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing leader of the cult group, Lekan otherwise known as Babalawo.

Members of the gang arrested are one Kehinde Ismaih 35, Olaiya Ahmed 29, Joshua David 36, and Adewunyi Sodqic 28.

They were said to have been having their meeting at Fada Area and headed by Babalawo, now on the run, before the police division in Ifo dispatched officers to the scene and got them arrested.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola confirmed this to newsmen in a statement on Monday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Omolola said that Babalawo tops the list of notorious cultists in the state, who has remained on the run, continuing with his criminality leading to the killing of Anthony on February, 14, 2024.

Said said, “Intelligence indicated that staunch members of Eiye confraternity members headed by one Lekan a.k.a. Babalawo, as their ‘number one’, were gathered at Fada area having their secret cult meeting.

“Lekan tops the list of notorious cultists in Ogun State, who has remained on the run, and at the same persists with his criminality. He is also a prime suspect in a murder case currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department where one Monday Anthony, was murdered on the 14th of February 2024.”

“The divisional police officer, Ifo went on their trail and arrested one Kehinde Ismaih, 35 “m” Olaiya Ahmed, 29 “m” Joshua David, 36 “m” and Adewunyi Sodqic 28 “m”. However , Lekan Babalawo again bolted, escaping through unknown terrain.”

“An investigation is currently underway, and the suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after preliminary investigations are completed at the division.”

“Violent crimes and criminals in Ogun State are on the decrease under the watch of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, who has also called on the public to volunteer information that will track Lekan a.k.a Babalawo, who is presently on the run and still a priority on Ogun State Police monitor list.”
