Court sets May 28 for hearing in Ganduje’s APC suspension case

Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman of the Federal High Court, Kano, has scheduled May 28 as the date for the hearing of a substantive application filed by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.

The legal action stems from Ganduje’s contestation of his suspension from the party by factional ward executives led by Basiru Nuhu Isa.

The saga surrounding Ganduje’s suspension commenced with an initial suspension by APC ward executives led by Haladu Gwanjo on April 15. However, the situation escalated when another faction emerged, announcing Ganduje’s suspension on April 20, further muddling the circumstances.

In response to the second suspension, Zakari Sarina, the party’s secretary in Kano, publicly denounced the faction’s actions, categorizing it as a case of impersonation.

Ganduje, represented by his legal counsel, Hadiza Nasir Ahmad, is seeking legal redress, arguing that his suspension without the opportunity to defend himself constitutes a violation of his fundamental right to fair hearing.

Additionally, he contends that his suspension by the faction is unlawful, null, and void.

During a recent court proceeding, Ganduje’s legal team applied for service on the respondents by substituted means, a request that Justice Liman granted.

Consequently, the court adjourned the matter to May 28 for a comprehensive hearing, signaling a pivotal moment in Ganduje’s bid to challenge his suspension from the APC.
