Court grants actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyi N5m bail

Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Nollywood actress accused of tampering with and spraying the newly designed Naira notes, was granted N5 million bail on Wednesday by a Federal High Court in Lagos State.

The role interpreter  was arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke on Monday and was charged with two counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The accused was charged  for stepping and spraying the new designed naira notes.

She was charged  with tampering with N100,000 brand-new notes at a gathering in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos by spraying and stepping on them.

The 31 years old filmmaker however, pleaded innocent to the accusation.

Justice Aneke granted the defendant’s request for bail and one similar-sized surety in his decision on Wednesday.

The court ruled that the guarantor had to be employed by the government and possess real estate subject to the court’s jurisdiction.

The surety must also present three years of tax-clearance documents.

He postponed the trial date to April 3.

The defendant was charged with committing the offence on January 28 at the monarch event centre in Lekki.

The prosecutor, Mr. S.I. Sulaiman, said that when the defendant was dancing at the event, she sprayed and trampled on the freshly designed naira notes.

Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007 is violated by the offence.

The defendant was detained after a video of her spraying new notes at a party went viral.
