Chelsea set to confirm Enzo Maresca appointment

Chelsea are set to announce Enzo Maresca as their new head coach today, Monday.

The 44-year-old Italian will take over from Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, having agreed to a five-year contract.

Maresca leaves Leicester City after leading them to promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship.

Maresca, who was chosen over Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, impressed Chelsea during their selection process.

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, held talks with Maresca in Marbella with Leicester’s permission.

Chelsea were impressed by Maresca’s understanding of their squad, his vision for their playing style, and his enthusiasm for the role.

Known for his focus on possession-based football, Maresca was seen as the best fit to lead Chelsea forward.

His appointment will be officially confirmed later this Monday, 3rd June, 2024.
