Blinken applauds Tinubu for bold leadership in tackling Niger crisis

US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in dealing with the crisis in the Republic of Niger, commending his “bold leadership.”

Tinubu, who serves as the Chairman of ECOWAS, hosted a meeting with other regional leaders to address the situation and restore ousted Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum.

Following the overthrow of Bazoum by his presidential guards in Niamey last Wednesday, Tinubu took early steps to restore democracy by meeting with President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic in Abuja and sending him to Niger for mediation talks.

During the meeting of West African leaders on Sunday, they set a one-week deadline for the army to reinstate Bazoum.

In response to the developments, Blinken expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his resolute leadership and disclosed that they discussed bilateral and multilateral efforts to resolve the crisis and restore constitutional order in Niger.
